Walters' and Varty's big nights helped the Wild crush the Bighorns 6-2

Cody Walters and Coleman Varty had big nights with 4 points (4 goals, 0 assists) and 4 points (0 goals, 4 assists) respectively as the Gillette Wild crushed the Helena Bighorns 6-2 in a home game at Spirit Hall Ice Arena in Gillette. As well, the Gillette Wild's offense had a big night, peppering Helena with 38 shots throughout the game. The Gillette Wild took the lead early in the second on a goal from Nick Stockert.

Austin Eastep chipped in with 2 assists. Gavin Cline contributed with 2 goals.

During the first period, Walters opened the scoring for the Wild with a goal at 8:19 with helpers from his linemates, Eastep and Varty.

In the second, Walters netted a goal at 2:33 with assists from his linemates, Varty and Eastep. Stockert deposited what turned out to be the game winning goal at 4:49 with helpers from his linemates, Thompson and Prewett. Walters put in a goal at 14:46 with an assist from Varty. Cline quickly followed with a goal at 15:48 with helpers from his teammates Gavrilenko and Rieger. Oberg answered for the Wild with a goal at 19:17 with assists from his linemates, Peterson and Mitzel.

During the third, Walters scored a goal at 5:23 with helpers from Feagins and Varty. Cline answered for Helena with a goal at 17:16.

Gillette’s victory was in no doubt helped out by Grogan’s big night as he stopped 53 of the 55 shots he faced. Grogan’s counterpart, Battaglia, also had a big night, managing to stop 25 of 29, but ultimately fell short.

This win brings the Gillette Wild’s record to (16-18-2-2).
