Matt Rose (Billings, MT) has announced his intentions of playing NCAA Division III hockey for the Northland College LumberJacks. Northland College is located in Ashland,WI. They are a Member of the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA). LumberJack Hockey has been fielding a team at this level since 1997. They are coached by Steve Fabiilli.
Rose has played for the Wild the last two years. He was awarded the “Wild Award;” an award given to the player who demonstrates commitment to the game of hockey, his team, and his community. It is the only award given out by the Wild and is voted on by his peers. Rose played 44 games for the Wild this past season, earning 14 Goals, 32 Assists, for 46 points.
Matt has said "It’s been a dream of mine since I was a little kid to play college hockey. Northland College had everything I was looking for academically, and the fact that I get to play hockey there is a dream come true.” Matt will major in Business Management in Ashland.
Northland Coach Steve Fabiilli has stated his excitement for garnering the attention of a great teammate like Matt. He commented “We are excited to add a quality student-athlete in Matt. He has all of the qualities we look for here at Northland and look forward to him being a part of our LumberJack family.”
Coach Winkler has stated "Matt Rose has been the heart and soul of our organization the last two years. He is a spitting image of what it takes to make it at this level. Matt never took a shift off, and because of it, now he gets to continue his education with an opportunity to play NCAA hockey. We couldn’t be more proud of Matt.”
The Wild now have 8 players from last years team commit to strong college hockey programs as well as one player drafted in the NAHL.
