Gillette gutted out a close 3-2 win against Bozeman.
Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Jack Oberg secured the win for Gillette with a goal in the third period.
Gillette was led by Oberg, who tallied one goal. Oberg scored 4:39 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Gillette.
Gillette kept Bozeman\’s goalie busy throughout the game, and Stephen Frank made 38 saves on 41 shots.
Gillette also had goals scored by Riley Holwegner and Michael Doyle, who scored one goal each. In addition, Gillette received assists from Nick Scherbinin, Colt Johnson, and Kyle Traux, who each chipped in one.
Bozeman\’s penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Gillette power plays. Bozeman did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. Bozeman averages 4.1 goals per game. Gillette was unable to stop Bozeman from sending pucks towards the net, and Bozeman eventually piled up 37 shots on goal.
Bozeman was helped by Nicholas Thompson, who had one goal. Thompson scored 48 seconds into the third period to make the score 2-2. Kegan Couture picked up the assist. Bozeman additionally got points from Steven Nisbet, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. More assists for Bozeman came via Ryan Peterson and Austin Charnholm, who contributed one each.
Alex Feese made 35 saves for Gillette on 37 shots. Gillette ended with 19 minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major. Gillette ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Adam Maxfield was ejected from the game. Bozeman incurred 32 minutes in penalty time with six minors. For Bozeman, Dylan Michaud was ejected from the game.
