For the first time in nearly a year the Gillette Wild will make their way to Cody, facing off against the Yellowstone Quake in a two-game series this weekend. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 pm, both tonight, and Saturday night at Riley Arena.
Wild head coach Ethan Hayes took over the program in 2020 and over that time Gillette has gone 4-2 against the Quake in Cody. During that stretch, the Wild have averaged 6.5 goals on 46 shots, while surrendering an average of 3.5 goals on 28 shots to the Quake. Gillettes largest margin of victory, during this time, was a 12-3 victory, on October 15, 2021, while their largest margin of defeat was a 6-3 loss on February 20, 2021. That night marked the only time in Hayes tenure Gillette was outshot (42-41) by Yellowstone in Cody.
Gillette enters the weekend with a 4-2 record this season, scoring an average of 5.6 goals, on 59 shots, per night. Yellowstone has a record of 2-4, averaging 2.3 goals, on 32 shots a night.
Yellowstone is led in scoring by Brayson Bennett. The Columbus, IN, native has recorded nine points, all assists, this season. The Quake are led in goals by Rice Lake, WI, product Teagan Scheurer, who has found the back of the net five times.
The Quake have started three different goalies this season. Edvin Falkenstrom, from Valbo, Sweden, is 1-2, giving up 3.69 goals a night, John Hughes, from Noblesville, IN, is 1-1, giving up 3.03 goals a night, and Steven Kelley, from St. Paul, MN, is 0-1, giving up three goals in his only start of the season.
