Gillette beats Point Mallard 3-2 after comeback scare

Point Mallard tried its best to erase a two-goal deficit, but Gillette would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 3-2.

A goal by Colt Johnson put Gillette up 3-1 in the third period, but Point Mallard pulled to within one on Cody Thomas\’s tally 15:20 into the third period.

Gillette was paced by Johnson, who racked up one goal. Johnson scored 4:16 into the third period to make the score 3-1 Gillette. Alex King picked up the assist.

Gillette excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances.

Gillette also got points from Adam Maxfield, who also registered one goal and one assist. Kyle Traux also scored for Gillette. More assists for Gillette came via Nick Scherbinin and Cade Boreing, who contributed one each.

Point Mallard\’s penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Gillette power plays. Point Mallard could not produce up to its normal offensive output. Point Mallard puts an average of 4.3 pucks into the net per game. Point Mallard\’s offense rang up 35 shots on Gillette\’s net.

Point Mallard was helped by Justin Dunn, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Dunn scored 14:17 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Point Mallard. Thomas assisted on the tally. Point Mallard additionally got points from Thomas, who also had one goal and one assist. In addition, Point Mallard received assists from Joe Bresingham, who had one.

Alex Feese made 33 saves for Gillette on 35 shots. Gillette incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Cooper Seedott rejected 18 shots on goal for Point Mallard. Point Mallard incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
