King’s goals lift Gillette to 5-0 victory over Yellowstone

Alex King had two goals to lead the Gillette Wild to a 5-0 victory over the Yellowstone Quake.

King scored at 11:34 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Gillette and again while 15:34 into the first to make the score 2-0 Gillette.

Sean Kelley spearheaded the defensive effort for Gillette, as he did not allow a puck past him and made 41 saves for the shutout. Kelley managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 2.34 prior to the game.

The Wild was steadier on the defensive front than they have been for much of this season. Gillette gives up 2.6 goals on average per game. The Wild forced Yellowstone goalie Rocco Yapello to work between the pipes, taking 51 shots.

Gillette also got points from Darren Banks, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Gillette also had goals scored by Nick Mead and Robbie Lantz, who scored one goal each. In addition, Gillette received assists from Greg Sauers, who had two and Will Fobair, Moco Willis, Michael Burke, and Collin Papesh, who contributed one a piece.

The Quake\’s offense operated below they season average. Yellowstone puts an average of 2.7 pucks into the net per game. The Quake\’s offense rang up 41 shots on Gillette\’s net.

The Wild incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Yellowstone\’s Yapello stopped 46 shots out of the 51 that he faced. The Quake incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
